Invent a new review game for the end of a chapter. How would it be structured? Would there be a clearly-defined winner? Make sure this game incorporates EVERYONE in the class, where everyone is actively reviewing the material on some level.
(This blog will be graded based upon the thoughtfulness of your answer.)
I call this game the game of truth.
ReplyDeleteThere is no requirement of how many people can play.
There are no teams in this game so everyone is by themselves.
Items needed:
-sheet of paper
-pencil
-your brain
How to play:
1. everyone does rock-paper-scissors
2. the person that wins get to choose a number from 1~100
3. when the teacher says go, everyone starts making any number of equations that equal the number
4. each equation has to have an exponent, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction and parenthesis
5. everyone has to use numbers 1~10 and only once
6. the person with the most equations with the requirement wins
7. the winner gets a prize from the teacher (optional)
ReplyDeleteI would like to call this game, Walking Mathematicians.
There are no limit of people who plays this game, but the total amount of people should be always even.
And when the game starts, nobody can join until the game ends.
In this game, there will be pairs of two searching for questions hidden around the school.
One material that you need when you are searching the questions is a phone which is going to vibrate.
Here are the rules:
Before the game, the teacher will be hiding a lot of folded sheet of paper around the school that has a question in it. The questions will include, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing decimals and fractions. Also, there will be mean, median, mode, range questions. Last but not least, there will be equation questions.
After the teacher hides all the questions around the school, the teacher will come back to the class and say go.
Then, all the pairs will walk around the school searching the questions.(No running!)
Each pair will have 30 minutes of searching the questions.
After 30 minutes, the signal to come back will be sent to the pair’s phone and the pair will have 5 minutes to come back to the class.
When they arrive at the classroom, they would start solving each problem that they collected. (The more you collect the higher chance of winning this game)
When all the pairs are done solving the questions, they would count the questions that they solve correctly.
The pair that has the most correctly answered questions will be the winning pair and they will get a prize from the teacher.
And... HAVE FUN!!!!
Divide the 2 group of each students.
ReplyDeleteCheck your and table mate’s works and answers.
If your answers are different from partner, and your answer is wrong, use the white clip board to correct your answer and if your answer is right, you will get the partial credit for it (1/2), but if not, you will get no point (0). If your answer is right at the beginning, you will get full point (2/2).
Winner should have most points.
The review game is called Treasure hunts. The only team that exists in this game is yourself, so you have to do all the work because you have no teammate.. You can get help from a teacher by using the three chances that you are given. There will be ten blocks drawn 0n the board for each individuals that plays the game. The players will have to then solve one question that is instructed by the game master, or the teacher. Every time you get an answer correct, one block will be destroyed. If you get all ten questions correct, you will be able to get the treasure. Because there is no way that you are going to win if you keep on answering an incorrect answer and none of your blocks are destroyed (erased on the board), by answering the correct answer of question 3, 6 or 9, you will be able to destroy three blocks if you get the correct answer. However, question 3, 6 and 9 will be a very challenging word problem. If you don’t get the correct answer, your block won’t be destroyed. After a player or players destroyed all the blocks, the teacher will write a difficult equation on the board which is the key to open the treasure. Only the players who destroyed all ten blocks will be able to solve it and if they solve it, they will be able to win the game. If any player reaches the equation to get the treasure, buy some players still did not break all ten blocks, the teacher will repeat the ten questions including 3, 6 and 9. The player does not have to answer all ten repeated questions if they only have few blocks left. All they need to do is answer some questions that will break all their blocks. Each player will have a board and a marker to write their answers on it and show it to the teacher. The teacher will draw ten blocks for each of the players on the big board and erase a block if the player gets the answer right. The ten questions all has to be related to what the classmates are studying and the player that cheats or does anything that relates to cheating will get a diamond block that will only be broken when the cheater answer the question 3,6, and 9 all right. Basically, if you cheat, there is a 80% chance that you will loose. The questions can be repeated and you are able to do anything that does not including cheating or using the calculator.
